II. State the services provided by your organization in 25 words or less:
We reduce unwanted animals through education, adoption, and sterilization campaigns; and teach citizens, especially children, how to treat animals humanely through public education programs.
III. Please provide a comprehensive extended statement of services that will clearly demonstrate to the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign Advisory Council your qualifications for participation in the CVC as related to the services listed below. Additionally, discuss the eligibility requirements for an applicant to receive services. What determines the amount of aid provided? If charges are made for services rendered, how are levels determined and in what cases are the charges waived, if any?
We offer low cost and free sterilizations to pets of low income citizens and to animals rescued in our community. We also help low income people with vet bills. Annual family income levels must be less than $25,000. We reduce charges if multiple animals (usually kittens or puppies) need to be sterilized but ONLY IF the parent is also sterilized. We have raised over $250,000 for 3 years to help the county build its new animal shelter. In our Education Room in the new shelter we teach adopters and other citizens, especially children, how to treat animals humanely. This education is critical to helping reduce animal and child abuse in our community by addressing the proven link between animal abuse and both juvenile and adult violence. We also work with county animal control officers to find homes for shelter animals. Our Spay Clinic is opening in 2007.
