Making A Difference

Rebuilding Together

Rebuilding TogetherMs. Davis has always been the go-to person in her family despite her being the youngest of seven siblings.  Since she can remember, she has taken care of her loved ones and has always put others first.  Ms. Davis passion for taking care of others led to a career of caring for elderly people.  Her dedication to her work is resilient as expressed through her recollection of taking in a number of elderly people when the adult home where she was working caught on fire.

Currently, Ms. Davis cares for four elderly people who live with her in her Highland Park home. Physical ailments and her demanding work as a caretaker have not allowed her to make improvements to her home of thirty-five years.  Ms. Davis, widowed long ago, continues to perpetuate the strong family values that she and her husband instilled in their family.  They all return home for family gatherings and her brother frequents her porch throughout the week for visits.

Volunteers from the Rotary of South Richmond, the high school Interact Club and Home Depot repaired her fence, replaced bathroom tiles, planted shrubbery, built new basement stairs, installed a dryer, replaced windows, repaired the roof and made safety modifications in the home. Ms. Davis lives her life by her motto, “Be nice to people and they’ll be nice to you”.  Through Rebuilding Together of Richmond, she reaped the tangible benefits of a lifetime of service to others.

Rebuilding Together of Richmond is CVC #3364.
