The Richmond Christian Leadership Institute (RCLI)

Professional development is something many private or public sector employees are accustomed to experiencing, as employers typically recognize the value of challenging and growing their employees. The Richmond Christian Leadership Institute (RCLI) provides similar opportunities, but outside the context of a formal organizational structure. Instead, an annual Class of thirty participants make connections with each other and with the issues of our region (e.g., education, housing, community relations), all while developing a Personal Leadership Profile.

After just four program years, the results of this leadership initiative are many. On an individual level, “alumni” have relocated to live in and serve challenged neighborhoods; have welcomed new immigrants into their home or served as ESL instructors; and have activated their neighborhood associations or local PTAs. On a broader scale, alumni have filled key private, public (local and state), and nonprofit sector roles; built bridges across groups with diverse characteristics or interests; and joined or started organizations responding to unmet needs in the area.

RCLI knows there are more leaders-in-waiting that can benefit from this experience and thereby be better poised to serve the Richmond region.
